Galataport is a cruise terminal that lands you in the middle of the city, on the Karaköy waterfront. Step off the ship and the Galata Tower is a short walk away, with Sultanahmet a few minutes beyond. Yet the cruise passenger's real question is about time: I have to reach the ship before boarding closes, or get from the ship to a flight, and I need that guaranteed. This guide explains Solevra Travel's private transfers at Galataport in three scenarios: airport to ship, ship to airport, and a city tour on a port day.
Scenario 1: Airport to ship
For passengers flying into Istanbul to join a cruise, the timeline begins with the landing. Enter your flight number and the flight is tracked; if it is delayed, the driver waits. With the meet and greet service, you are met in the arrivals hall with a name sign and your luggage is carried to the vehicle. The drive from Istanbul Airport to Galataport takes about 50 to 80 minutes depending on traffic, and from Sabiha Gökçen about 60 to 90 minutes.
Embarkation usually opens a few hours before departure and closes some time before the ship sails. Take the boarding window from your cruise documents and write it in the booking notes. At the port, the vehicle goes to the closest point to the passenger terminal where vehicles are permitted; from there, luggage handling is run by port staff.
Scenario 2: Ship to airport
Disembarkation starts early in the morning, and it can take a while for luggage to reach the terminal. Set your pickup time from the disembarkation time given by the cruise line and leave a margin for collecting bags. The driver waits at the terminal exit at the agreed time, and if you entered your flight number, your departure time is known as well.
How early you need to be at the airport depends on the flight. As a general rule, aim to be at the airport three hours before an international departure, and add the driving time and morning traffic on top. Our return transfer guide walks through the calculation step by step.
Scenario 3: A city tour on a port day
If your ship stays in Istanbul for the day, leaving the port in a private vehicle is the most controlled way to see the city when the clock is ticking. The vehicle stays with you all day, the stops are ordered, and the driver knows when you must be back on board. Sultanahmet, the Bosphorus shore, Ortaköy and Pierre Loti can be combined in one route. For ready-made programmes and duration-based packages, see our day tours guide, and always write the ship's departure time in the booking notes.
Vehicle class and luggage
Cruise passengers tend to travel heavy: a long trip, formal evening wear, souvenirs. Count your bags honestly:
- Eco Sedan: 3 passengers, 3 suitcases. A solo traveller or a couple with light luggage.
- Eco Van: 7 passengers, 6 suitcases. The safest choice for a couple or a family.
- VIP Van: 6 passengers, 6 suitcases. A comfortable cabin with plenty of luggage room.
- Minibus / Midibus: 14/12 and 27/25. For groups disembarking together; see our group transfer guide.
Price and booking
The price depends on the route and the vehicle class. It appears before booking with VAT included and does not change on the road. Choose EUR, USD or TRY and pay with 3D Secure; the confirmation email and booking number arrive immediately. If the cruise line changes its schedule, reach us through the contact page with your booking number.
Where does the vehicle wait at Galataport?
At the closest point to the passenger terminal where vehicles are allowed. The meeting point is in your confirmation email, and the driver holds a sign with your name.
What if the ship docks late?
Set the pickup from the disembarkation time given by the cruise line. If you learn of a delay, contact us with your booking number and the time is adjusted.
Can we tour the city before boarding?
Yes. A booking can start at the airport, include a few hours of ordered stops around the city, and end at the port. Write the boarding time in the notes.
We have a lot of luggage. Which vehicle?
Start with the Eco Van or the VIP Van based on your suitcase count. Capacities are listed on the booking screen; do not book at the limit.
Enter your cruise date and airport and get your price; the journey between port and airport is ready at a fixed price, planned around your flight and sailing times.
